DC Transportation

DC METRO (public transportation)
Skip the traffic, take the Metro! It's fast, affordable, and gets you where you need to go. Riding is simple:
  • Tap in and out using a credit card, debit card, or mobile wallet
  • Want unlimited rides (1, 3, or 7 days)? Grab a SmarTrip card from a fare machine
  • For step-by-step directions and route planning, use the Metro's Trip Planner

BUS PARKING
While there isn’t dedicated long-term bus parking directly at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center, the most practical and commonly used option is the Union Station Parking Garage. It’s a centrally located, 24-hour facility that functions as one of DC’s primary bus hubs and accommodates charter and tour buses for both parking and staging. For more details, you can reference their parking information here: Union Station Parking Information

In addition to identifying locations, the District Department of Transportation (DDOT) manages the city’s overall motorcoach operations through its Tour Bus Parking Program. It provides:
  • Designated motorcoach parking, staging, and drop-off/pick-up locations across the city
  • Maps and routing guidance for buses navigating DC
  • Information on permits, regulations, and time limits
  • Updates on availability and seasonal considerations
You can explore their full program and resources here: DDOT Tour Bus Parking Program
